Hear what our customers say about us…

I am very well settled and really very happy in my new home.

I keep finding nice, really nice suprises.

I found the house has sunny nooks for the cold winter days, especially the window seat,

the downstairs especially stayed warm and cosy.

Summer it’s just as good.

My shutters keep out the radiant heat but by 1pm I can open the windows in the sitting room and have the coolest sea breezes coming in.

Hardly need the fans let alone aircon yet.

We are finding smaller, more efficient homes are on trend here on the Sunshine Coast. With families happy to sacrifice space, to live closer to work and our beautiful coastline.

There is also a greater awareness of the cost of operating big homes, that have more space to heat and cool, furnish and clean.

This tiny house movement drew our focus on designing a new range of PJ Burns Builder homes to be smarter and lighter with a smaller footprint. A range of small homes where every corner of the home is thoughtfully considered.

Above: Our Sanctuary 60 is a 60m2 home that can be certified as a secondary dwelling and custom designed to suit your individual style and block.

Smaller homes do not mean that you need to compromise on style, in fact, we believe it is the opposite. With shows like “Tiny House Nation” or ‘Living Small” on Netflix, & small home articles in the latest Real Living Magazine, there is plenty of inspiration for you to create you new modern and stylish lifestyle choice.

Above: Our Sanctuary 90 is a 90m2 home that would be perfect for a block that has views or a beautiful outlook and can be easily modified to suit your style and block.

Parklakes 2 Bli Bli, is an established and thriving masterplanned community and has just released Stages 12, 13 and 14. The available blocks range from 354m2 Cottage Style Blocks, so there is plenty of opportunity to build your a thoughtfully designed family home.

Above: Our Banksia 168 is a 168m2 home that has been throughtfully designed to suit smaller estate style blocks.

No matter your design style, we’d love to hear from you & help bring your dreams to life. Design with joy – how to create a new home that makes you feel happy!

When designing your new PJ Burns Builder home, consider little things that make you smile. Our team of creative experts can help you incorporate those small details in your home to create that feeling joy, based around current elements of your life that make you feel happy.

No matter how small it seems at the time, we will experience little moments of joy in our everyday life. These small sparks of joy are powerful + when considered for your new home, they will become the building blocks to happiness.

There are a few elements to consider, to simply apply this idea to your new home design. Read on for joy-inducing ideas that might appeal to you.

Rediscover Nature.

Idea: Nature nourishes our souls, so when work (or school) life gets a bit much, we often retreat to nature.

Designer Tip: Bring the inside out by considering your surroundings with the layout and position of your home. Perhaps you have a constant view outside, or established trees on your block – it’s a simple way to bring happy vibes into your home. Don’t overlook indoor plants or a vase full of fresh flowers when decorating.

Let light flood in.

Idea: Natural light + the warmth of the sun are uplifting + energizing.

Designer Tip: Consider the orientation of your home + the position of the natural light to enjoy different spaces, at different times of the day. White or bright internal paint colours will bring visual feshness + warmth into your new PJ Burns Builder home. Keep in mind that during our preliminary site visits, we will inspect + evaluate your home for your first concept, preliminary plans and price, visit our youtube chanel for examples of this.

Create harmony.

Idea: A well balanced life leads to happiness + the same goes when designing your new home.

Designer Tip: Feature pendant lights are a simple + affordable way to bring balance into the design of your new PJ Burns Builder home. Keep in mind that balance in design doesn’t always mean matching or symmetry.

Interior design ideas to elevate your home!

With so many platforms and beautiful images availabile to us daily, it is easy to become overwhelmed by options and choices when it comes to the interior design of your new PJ Burns Builder home. We have broken it down to simple elements and steps for you to consider, when designing and decorating each space of your new PJ Burns Builder home.

Let light in.

Beautiful lighting will make a space, a whilst your floor plan will usually determine your lighting plan, making the most of natural light is always a good idea.

Natural light constantly changes throughout the day, and is one of the lovely and noticable elements to suprise you, when settling into your new home and watching the morning and afternoon light move through each space.

A home that faces north and east, will make the most of our coastal climate, while naturally allowing light and heat flowing through your home. A thoughtfully designed space will take advantage of the natural light during the day.

To create a mood and add ambience, incorporate interesting windows or feature pendants, wall lights, ceiling lights, lamps into your interior design, rather than filling each space with too many downlights.

Designer Tip: As part of the PJ Burns experience, keep in mind that you will be provided with the opportunity to walk through your new home with our experienced electrician, at frame stage, to ensure your new home is transformed into your dream home.

Colour changes everything.

Your colour palette is an important element of interior design and effectivly achieving the style your going for.

The 60/30/10 rule, is popular with interior designers, and rightfully so. The 60 percent refers to your main colour, which acts as the backdrop or anchor for the space you are designing. The 30 percent refers to your secondary colour, of which needs to have it’s own identity while toning harmoniously with your main colour. The 10 percent refers to your statement colour, which depending on your design inspiration is your chance to get creative and add that pop of colour adding character and attention.

When selecting colours, both natural and artificial light will change the way colours appear and feel in each space. For confidence in your decision, order a sample pot or A4 colour swatches via Dulux website to get the most accurate example of the final result.

Designer Tip: As part of the PJ Burns experience, keep in mind that you will be provided with the opportunity to complete a colour consultation with our wonderful interior designer, during the preliminary process, to ensure your vision and design inspiration is brought to life.

Texture is paramount.

The first thing to remember when it comes to texture within interior design, is balance. Balance your matt stone finishes, with a soft throw or cushion from adairs, your naturally darker materials with a lighter tone of woven rug from rugs of beauty, or your shiny, glossy surface with a stonewashed linen from deiji studios.

Designer Tip: An easy way to incorporate texture into the structure of your new home, is with a feature wall cladding, tile or exposed trusses. Discuss options and costs involved during the designing stage of the process, your options are only limited by your imagination and budget!

Space.

Arguably the most important consideration in designing a room is how your home and design flows between spaces.

Be mindful how you + your family use the current space you are living in, and visualise your furniture pieces on your floor plan during the preliminary design stage. It is important to leave enough space between significant furniture pieces for your to comfortably transition between spaces.

Designer Tip: Consider unusable space, such as a void or high ceilings and incorporate statement lighting or exposed trusses to bring your new home interior to life.

Colour Forecast

We are here to guide you in finding the perfect colour combination for your new PJ Burns Builder home. Let’s do it!

Dulux’s four forecasted styles for 2019 are all about creating your happy place and living your best life. When the world is so busy and the influences so many, these beautiful colour palette’s will help you filter out the noise and focus on what matters.

Breathe and simply be in the moment with Dulux’s wholeself palette

Do you feel like your brain is in constant overdrive? It’s time to switch off the smartphone and clear out the mental clutter. Wholeself helps us to create a calm, distraction-free zone where we can dial back the volume and reconnect with ourselves.

Create a timeless and elegantly styled home with Dulux’s legacy palette

What is the legacy we leave behind? Every day we tread the tightrope of time, pulled forward by hot, new trends and futuristic technologies. But there’s no ignoring our past, the ultimate symbol of elegance and time-honoured tradition. Legacy brings the past and present into timeless harmony with an eclectic mix of influences.

Dulux’s identity palette empowers you to show your true colours

It’s time to break out of the mould and show us the real you. Identity speaks to the radical, non-conformist in us all. It empowers us to live on the wild side and express our true inner creative. Who cares what anyone else thinks?

Heal our rifts with nature with Dulux’s repair palette

Repair helps us revive our relationship with nature and embrace a more holistic and ‘circular’ way of living. Our comfortable, carefree existence begins to fade into the past, as we adopt a wabi-sabi sensibility that appreciates the beauty in faults and flaws.

Keep in mind that colours online are always displayed for design inspiration and should be used as a guide for your colour selection. To ensure best accuracy, your desired colours can be arranged as A4 Colour Swatches during the pre construction design process with PJ Burns Builder.

Style Files – Japandi Style

One of the most exciting parts of building your new home is selecting your design & style. For some people this comes really easy & others it can be a little more difficult. Whichever side of the fence you sit on, we have a team of experts here to guide you through the process.

While Scandinavian (Scandi) design continues to be a popular, aligning seamlessly with our relaxing Queensland lifestyle, beautiful landscapes & our strong connection to our natural surroundings & nature. Add a twist on the Scandi by blending the Japanese & ‘wabi-sabi’ (which is the Japanese principle of finding beauty in the imperfections of life & an ancient design philosophy that embraces transitory nature) and you have Japandi, a design style where elegance meets minimalism & the concept ‘less is more’ is encouraged.

Images: Design Inspiration via Plyroom

Plyroom describe Japandi perfectly in their November 2017 blog post ‘Japandi – A Philosophical Revelation’ as “Less of trend and more of a pragmatic synthesis between Japanese sensibility and Scandinavian utilitarianism, Japandi is, in essence, a way of life. By welcoming Japanese philosophies like wabi-sabi (the acceptance of transience and imperfection) as well as Scandinavian efficiency, Japandi principals can be applied to our own pursuit of mindful consumption and small footprint living.”

The dark tones in statement furniture & styling details found in the Japandi style, such as charcoal, black or stained dark oak are not common in Scandinavian interior design & drawn from the Japanese influence. These dark tones blend seamlessly with the distinguishable Scandi clean lines, flawless craftsmanship & the use of natural materials such a oak, leather and hemp, with it’s shared simplicity, minimalism & functionality.

Images: Design Inspiration via Stephanie Powell

What we admire about the Japandi style here at PJ Burns Builder, is the cleaver use of the Scandi principles, with slight Japanese adaptations in the accent colours, the texture of fabric & the contrast of timbers. Both styles philosophy embrace the simple & clean living, minimal way of living, which is something that inspires us to create homes with warmth, sustainable living & spaces encouraging creative individuality #amirite?

Style Files – Hamptons Style

One of the most exciting parts of building your new home is selecting your design & style. For some people this comes really easy & others it can be a little more difficult. Whichever side of the fence you sit on, we have a team of experts here to guide you through the process.

One of the biggest styles on trend at the moment & being showcased all over social media is the Hamptons Style, which can be influenced by our coastal ‘beach vibe’ or hinterland ‘cottage themed’ surroundings & lifestyle.

There are a few key design features emerging in our clients homes who are opting for the Hamptons Style, as you can see in our 2017 QMBA Multi Award Winning Home, which features high ceilings, oversized rooms, wide timber look vinyl-plank flooring & plenty of texture.

If Hamptons is your style preference, then opt for a soft natural colour palette.  Make your selection in mostly whites and a muted colour palette & limit features (although they can make a statement). When choosing your feature, head toward the warm grey, navy or duck egg blue tones, but be cautious how much colour you do use so you don’t take away from the room’s light and airy mood.

When decorating your new PJ Burns Builder, Hamptons home, consider using large oversized dining tables and lounges paired with natural fibers, such as a statement wicker or rattan feature chair or a sisal rug to ground the room.

To complete your Hamptons Style home & tie it all together, a standout mirror or feature pendant light fitting is a must. Just don’t forget the french linen!

We caught up with our Interior Designer & Colour Consultant, Amanda Burns who is currently in the preliminary design stages of building her new family home and is opting for a Hamptons style, with a country twist. Amanda describes her feelings toward the Hamptons Style as.. ‘I love how the Hamptons Style is effortlessly stylish, the warmth in the colour tones & texture from nature are homely, the designs are open, and encourage natural light & breeze. It’s all in the detail, and I love the relaxing, luxe resort feeling that it brings into the comfort of your own home.’

Style Files – Industrial Style

One of the most exciting parts of building your new home is selecting your design & style, for some people this comes really easy & others it can be a little more difficult. Whichever side of the fence you sit on, we have a team of experts here to guide you through the process.

One of the familiar styles we are seeing continuing on into 2018, is the every evolving Industrial Style. With its versatility to suit different styles of homes & ways of life & the option to go all out soho loft style or just incorporate certain elements into your home decoration, it is easy to see why this trend is carrying on.

Industrial style is fun & really easy to accomplish, for example, the exposed beams. Using non structural ceiling beams for appearance only, or exposing your timber trusses, transforms the interior & provides an added warmth to any space. You can paint them contrasting or even use a metal beam to add Industrial character.

Adding a face brick wall as a feature to your kitchen is another way to give the Industrial feeling of order and disorder, or think creative and paint your walls in a Concrete Wall Treatment, like Matt & Kim from The Block, who applied the polished concrete using a cement glassface product, or alternatively a specialist concrete look paint finish can be applied, which doubles up as a work of art!

Courtney from the PJ Burns team, who’s style is Industrial (and as much of it as possible), has incorporated a few different elements into her Sunshine Coast beach home, see below. We caught up with Courtney, who describes Industrial Style as.. ‘In a world of aiming to be perfect, the raw finish of the industrial style is refreshing, I compare it to imperfect perfection, where organised clutter is acceptable.’
