5 ways to bring your new home to life!

We have created a list and narrowed it down to five things that we encourage you to consider, when designing and planning each space of your new PJ Burns Builder home.

Number One: Let light in.

There are so many styles of windows + creative ways to let light into your new PJ Burns Builder home! Exposed trusses with a feature skylight will enhance your living space and provide so much character, while lovely louvre windows are hard to pass with their so many benefits #feelthebreeze!

Remember, thoughtfully positioned windows will give your home a feeling of space + connect your internal living areas seemly with the outdoors + your natural surroundings.

Number Two: Bring in the natural.

Adding a touch of natural fibers instantly brings natural warmth and texture to any space. Think Timber, Wool, Leather, Linen, Cotton and Metals in a fresh colour palette. Organic pieces of handmade furniture are beautiful additions, not to be overlooked and can be incorporated as coffee tables, light fittings, hanging chairs, bed heads or even lounges.

Designer Tip: Visit our ‘Hanging Chairs’ Blog Post for more design inspiration to incorporate organic pieces into your new PJ Burns home.

Number Three: Utilise your walls.

If you are short on floor space, utilising your walls not only adds interest, it also improves the functionality of your space. Depending on your style, consider a feature brick or cladding wall to add texture + character to the room.

Designer Tip: Frame your cherished photos and arrange them on your walls. You can create a gallery wall with a combination of memories + artwork or simply hang one or two statement pieces.

Number Four: Add something green.

This season is all about styling your home with lots and lots of greenery, bunches of flowers, hanging plants or potted plants, the options are endless.

Greenery can be incorporated into your new PJ Burns Builder home design by adding a custom made shelf or two to your bedroom, or some open shelves to your kitchen instead of overhead cupboards, the options are only limited by your imagination, and budget.

Keep in mind, not only do plants improve air quality by removing toxins, they instantly add warmth and soften an internal living space.

Number Five: Focus on flooring.

When it comes to deciding on the flooring of your new home, we are noticing a push towards Vinyl Plank Flooring, and it is not hard to see why. Durable and stylish, our clients love this standard PJ Burns Builder inclusion and appreciate the variety of modern colours to select from when it comes to making final colour selections.

Designer Tip: A rug can dramatically change the look and feel of a room and can give that instant warmth by defining the space. A rug can be the finishing touch to bring a room to life, or you might use it as a starting point, working cushions and artworks back, whichever you choose, with so many options you will find a rug that suits your style and lifestyle. Remember, proportion is everything when selecting a rug to fit your space.

Style Files – Japandi Style

One of the most exciting parts of building your new home is selecting your design & style. For some people this comes really easy & others it can be a little more difficult. Whichever side of the fence you sit on, we have a team of experts here to guide you through the process.

While Scandinavian (Scandi) design continues to be a popular, aligning seamlessly with our relaxing Queensland lifestyle, beautiful landscapes & our strong connection to our natural surroundings & nature. Add a twist on the Scandi by blending the Japanese & ‘wabi-sabi’ (which is the Japanese principle of finding beauty in the imperfections of life & an ancient design philosophy that embraces transitory nature) and you have Japandi, a design style where elegance meets minimalism & the concept ‘less is more’ is encouraged.

Images: Design Inspiration via Plyroom

Plyroom describe Japandi perfectly in their November 2017 blog post ‘Japandi – A Philosophical Revelation’ as “Less of trend and more of a pragmatic synthesis between Japanese sensibility and Scandinavian utilitarianism, Japandi is, in essence, a way of life. By welcoming Japanese philosophies like wabi-sabi (the acceptance of transience and imperfection) as well as Scandinavian efficiency, Japandi principals can be applied to our own pursuit of mindful consumption and small footprint living.”

The dark tones in statement furniture & styling details found in the Japandi style, such as charcoal, black or stained dark oak are not common in Scandinavian interior design & drawn from the Japanese influence. These dark tones blend seamlessly with the distinguishable Scandi clean lines, flawless craftsmanship & the use of natural materials such a oak, leather and hemp, with it’s shared simplicity, minimalism & functionality.

What we admire about the Japandi style here at PJ Burns Builder, is the cleaver use of the Scandi principles, with slight Japanese adaptations in the accent colours, the texture of fabric & the contrast of timbers. Both styles philosophy embrace the simple & clean living, minimal way of living, which is something that inspires us to create homes with warmth, sustainable living & spaces encouraging creative individuality #amirite?

PJ Burns New Display Home in Peregian Springs

Over the last 40 years, we have seen the area dramatically change its view on the traditional home.

While there has been an ongoing evolution in building materials & floor plan size over the time, the biggest changes have been brought in with the success of shows like ‘House Rules’ & ‘The Block’.

Take a 3D walk-through, virtual tour of our stylish new Display Home at 7 Rosea Place, Peregian Springs, where we decided to embrace the DIY movement & showcase a quality home with modern ‘Wow Factor’ custom made finishings.

Our in house designer, Joel Gravina says, “Current Building methodology is certainly a throwback to the 70’s with lightweight cladding materials, finishes such as wallpaper, and furnishings typical of the era.”

Style Files – Hamptons Style

One of the most exciting parts of building your new home is selecting your design & style. For some people this comes really easy & others it can be a little more difficult. Whichever side of the fence you sit on, we have a team of experts here to guide you through the process.

One of the biggest styles on trend at the moment & being showcased all over social media is the Hamptons Style, which can be influenced by our coastal ‘beach vibe’ or hinterland ‘cottage themed’ surroundings & lifestyle.

There are a few key design features emerging in our clients homes who are opting for the Hamptons Style, as you can see in our 2017 QMBA Multi Award Winning Home, which features high ceilings, oversized rooms, wide timber look vinyl-plank flooring & plenty of texture.

If Hamptons is your style preference, then opt for a soft natural colour palette.  Make your selection in mostly whites and a muted colour palette & limit features (although they can make a statement). When choosing your feature, head toward the warm grey, navy or duck egg blue tones, but be cautious how much colour you do use so you don’t take away from the room’s light and airy mood.

When decorating your new PJ Burns Builder, Hamptons home, consider using large oversized dining tables and lounges paired with natural fibers, such as a statement wicker or rattan feature chair or a sisal rug to ground the room.

To complete your Hamptons Style home & tie it all together, a standout mirror or feature pendant light fitting is a must. Just don’t forget the french linen!

We caught up with our Interior Designer & Colour Consultant, Amanda Burns who is currently in the preliminary design stages of building her new family home and is opting for a Hamptons style, with a country twist. Amanda describes her feelings toward the Hamptons Style as.. ‘I love how the Hamptons Style is effortlessly stylish, the warmth in the colour tones & texture from nature are homely, the designs are open, and encourage natural light & breeze. It’s all in the detail, and I love the relaxing, luxe resort feeling that it brings into the comfort of your own home.’

Style Files – Industrial Style

One of the most exciting parts of building your new home is selecting your design & style, for some people this comes really easy & others it can be a little more difficult. Whichever side of the fence you sit on, we have a team of experts here to guide you through the process.

One of the familiar styles we are seeing continuing on into 2018, is the every evolving Industrial Style. With its versatility to suit different styles of homes & ways of life & the option to go all out soho loft style or just incorporate certain elements into your home decoration, it is easy to see why this trend is carrying on.

Industrial style is fun & really easy to accomplish, for example, the exposed beams. Using non structural ceiling beams for appearance only, or exposing your timber trusses, transforms the interior & provides an added warmth to any space. You can paint them contrasting or even use a metal beam to add Industrial character.

Adding a face brick wall as a feature to your kitchen is another way to give the Industrial feeling of order and disorder, or think creative and paint your walls in a Concrete Wall Treatment, like Matt & Kim from The Block, who applied the polished concrete using a cement glassface product, or alternatively a specialist concrete look paint finish can be applied, which doubles up as a work of art!

Our Sales Manager, Courtney Burns who’s style is Industrial (and as much of it as possible), has incorporated a few different elements into her Sunshine Coast beach home, see below. We caught up with Courtney, who describes Industrial Style as.. ‘In a world of aiming to be perfect, the raw finish of the industrial style is refreshing, I compare it to imperfect perfection, where organised clutter is acceptable.’

The new PGH Morada range here at PJ Burns

The Morada Collection

We just adore the new PGH Morada range of bricks! A fresh, matte finish brick collection for contemporary style and design, with an option of  ‘Linea’ to give a stunning minimalist look.

The Morada collection boasts clean lines with a smooth, matte porcelain-like finish. Combined with the subtle softness of a fresh new colour palette, Morada brings modern European style to the Australian building landscape.

Made in Spain from ultra fine clay, Morada has a refined matte finish and designer colour palette. Morada’s versatility allows it to be used as a simple, strong building material in a beautiful, modern build. Alternatively, Morada can be paired with other materials to provide an elegant contrast in both colour and texture.
